U.S. Birth Rate Slump Raises Red Flags for Future Housing Market – Realtor.com July 24, 2025 https://www.realtor.com/news/trends/us-birth-rates-decline-housing-market/
“US. birth rates have fallen to 1980s levels despite a population increase of 108 million people, an eyebrow-raising new report from John Burns Research and Consulting shows.”
“There were 3.6 million births in 2024, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the same as in 1983. This, despite the significant population increase.”
“The most immediate effect will be fewer bedrooms needed for children, while the longer-term impact will be slower growth in potential renters and homebuyers,” John Burns economist Eric Finnigan tells Realtor.com®”
Europe is Extinguishing Itself – National Review July 20, 2025 https://www.nationalreview.com/2025/07/europe-is-extinguishing-itself/
“Europe’s fertility crisis has been ongoing virtually since it was fashionable to worry about the supposed opposite crisis of overpopulation. The average number of births per woman was a tick under 1.5 — closer to 1.0 in some nations, but nowhere was it above the level at which a population grows rather than shrinks.”
Scientists Explain Birth Rate Decline in Rich Countries – Newsweek, July 24, 2025 https://www.newsweek.com/birth-rate-world-population-decline-scientists-explain-countries-2102445#:~:text=Why%20Are%20Rich%20Countries%20Struggling,on%20personal%20fulfillment%20and%20career.%22
“Wealthy countries all over the world are struggling with historically low birth rates—a new study has looked at why this is the case and has a slightly different answer to what research has said before.
It argues that ‘short-term changes in income or prices cannot explain the widespread decline’ in fertility, but rather there has been a ‘broad reordering of adult priorities with parenthood occupying a diminished role.’”
